COY RAMON CALAWAY
June 17, 1940 – July 13, 2020
Coy Ramon Calaway, 80, left this earth to be with the Lord in Laredo, TX on July 13, 2020.
Coy Ramon Calaway, known as Ramon too most, was born on June 17, 1940, in Aldama, Tamps Mexico to Ramon and Concha Vargas. As a child, he was adopted by Coy Grover and Gloria Calaway and moved to East Texas. He attended Kilgore High School and later joined the Air Force where he was assigned to base camp in Orlando, Fl. This is where his journey of being a father began and had his first three daughters. Ramon later moved back to Mexico where he had the joy of having his first-born son, and added one more daughter to the mix. He then chose to move back to the states to raise the Calaway’s, which settled in Laredo in 1975.
Ramon was many things in life and will be remembered by many for different reasons such as being compassionate, affectionate, and witty to name a few. The real special thing about him was his love, loyalty, and commitment to his family and close friends. Everyone always had a loving dad or loyal friend in Ramon. He will always be remembered by his kindness, charm, openhearted approach to life, and readiness to go fishing. Ramon lived an exceptional life.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ramon and Concha Vargas, Coy Grover and Gloria Calaway; first wife Sue Donald; granddaughter Vilma Chakira Martinez; nephew Julian Vargas; and brothers Francisco and Arturo Vargas Saldivar.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Mary Suzanne Lozano, Sherry Jean Martinez, Ramona Diane Garza (Luis Alfredo Garza), and Olimpia Calaway; his son Grover Calaway; second wife Olimpia Calaway De La Garza; grandchildren Eduardo Ivan Martinez, Luis Ramon Lozano, Alyssa Suzanne Lozano, Diana Ramona Garza, Kassandra Carolina Garza, and Coy Calaway; brothers Julian and Ramon Vargas and sister Celia Calaway.
We are grateful to everyone for the love we have received in the loss of our father. During these non-customary times, there are moral and ethical observations in keeping everyone healthy. Our family will be holding all services privately.
In lieu of flowers, you may honor Ramon by making a donation to a charity of your choice or by taking yourself fishing.
