Consuelo Ruiz, 87, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
Not all women were meant to bear children. God created others with a different purpose; to serve as a mother to her siblings and every single one of her nieces and nephews. Chelo was our mother, grandmother, aunt, advisor, mentor, and many a time our disciplinarian. She radiated constant love to her family and all felt the need to seek her for prayers, compassion, and hope. Her love for children was always evident as she helped rear three generations of nieces and nephews. She loved them fiercely, but never backed down from throwing a “chancla” or two. She was the ultimate matriarch.
Consuelo was incredibly devoted to her faith and to children. She taught bible classes and catechism at San Martin de Porres Church. She joined pilgrimages to Mexico with the Brothers of Saint John and participated in faith and sharing. Chelo also belonged to the Catholic Daughters and served as a Eucharistic Minister for Holy Family Church. Her love of God transferred to the children she taught at Sister Imelda Mercy Child Care Center, where she was affectionately known as “Teacher Chelo.”
Although she left a large void in our hearts, we know that our family who has gone before her is rejoicing, dancing, singing, and toasting her welcome. She is preceded in death by her parents, Florencio and Enriqueta Ruiz, her brother Eduardo (Lupita+) Ruiz, and sister, Beatrice (Jack +) Trainor.
Left to continue her legacy are her siblings, Florencio (Irma +) Ruiz, Chita (Gilbert +) Mayorga, Virginia (Francisco +) Trevino, Berta (Mario) De La Rosa, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Most importantly, the family is in tremendous debt to our Tia Chita, who never left her Chelito’s side for the last 25 years. Her love and constant devotion has left an incredible footprint in our lives. To know them is to see love.
