CONSUELO YOLANDA GARZA GALLEGO

NOVEMBER 3, 1929 - JUNE 29, 2016

Consuelo Yolanda Gallego, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 29, 2016 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.

Chelo, as she was affectionately known, was born in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas on November 3, 1929, but resided most of her life in Laredo, Texas. She devoted her life to the raising of her four children until the youngest graduated from high school in 1975. Consuelo assisted her husband in his accounting practice beginning in 1969 until they both retired in 2007.

She graduated from Martin High School near the top of her class in 1947. She had a great belief in the value of an education and made sure all her children graduated from college and obtained graduate degrees. Her hobbies included reading biographies and inspirational stories, poetry, singing, and sewing. She was an officer in the Laredo A&M Mothers Club for several years. Her great faith and spiritual nature was evident by her long time service as a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and her participation in the Altar Society and Choir.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gallego, Jr.; father, Jose Amado Garza, mother, Consuelo J. Villarreal; brothers, Guillermo Garza, and Gilberto Garza; and son, Richard Daniel (Laura Martinez) Gallego.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Diana Elizabeth Gallego, Paul David Gallego (Mary Helen Garza), Elsa Lorraine (Robert Bruce) Carrier; grandchildren: Bethany R. (Lane) McCoppin, Yvonne Marie (Frank) Perez, Lisa Rochelle (Kevin Austin) Zuiga, Robert Daniel (Leslie) Gallego, Corinne Esther (Oziel) Rodriguez, Paul Richard Gallego, Denise (Andrew) Easter, Robert P. (Demi) Carrier, and Quinton Kyle (Ninfa) Carrier; and great-grandchildren: Kayleigh Alissa Zuiga, Paul Desmond Zuiga, Marcus Kingsley Zuiga, Helen Evangeline Perez, Clark Alexander Perez, Isabella Rodriguez, Daniella Rodriguez, Olivia Gallego, Bailey Easter, Brogen Easter, Elijah Carrier, Isaac Carrier, Charles Carrier, and Oliver Carrier.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to San Agustin Cathedral, 214 San Bernardo Avenue, Laredo, Texas 78040.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Benson Huang and staff for their medical care, and the Benavides Family and the Benavides Mineral Trust for their immense generosity and support.

A Rosary will be recited on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial service at 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapel, 719 Loring Avenue at Cortez Street (956)722-0001.
