Celia G. Saenz passed away peacefully while surrounded by her children and grandchildren on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in Laredo, Texas. She was 88 years old and was born in Bustamante, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Mrs. Saenz was a very witty person, full of joy, and always the life of the party. She was friendly, giving, and always extended a helping hand. Mrs. Saenz enjoyed family events and had a deep love for music, especially mariachi. She found great comfort in making a home cooked meal for family and friends.
Mrs. Saenz worked at LISD Central Kitchen where she received numerous awards for her dedication and hard work, including the Congressional Award for distinguished and outstanding service and dedication to the community, the state and the nation, sponsored by State Rep. Henry Cuellar, 28th Congressional District of Texas. She was also chosen as a candidate of Nuestro Orgullo by Univision.-After working there for 25 years, she retired at the age of 83.
Mrs. Saenz was preceded in death by her parents, Arcadio Gonzalez and Romanita Gonzalez Cuellar; her beloved husband, Juan de Dios Saenz Sr.; her children, Yolanda Gamboa, Juan (Lucia) Saenz Jr., Mario Saenz, Sandra Uribe; her grandson, Eloy Saenz; and her great granddaughter, Kristine Meza.
She is survived by her children, Vilma Saenz, Saul (Rosie) Saenz, Jesus H. (Juanita) Saenz, Gloria A. (Fidel Sr.) Riojas, Edgardo A. (Juanita) Saenz, Nestora (Natividad) Canales, Edna Elva (Pedro M. Sr.) Fuentes, and Cesar (Cecilia) Saenz; and by her brother, Sergio Gonzalez Cuellar. Mrs. Saenz is also survived by 44 grandchildren, 78 great grandchildren, and 25 great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Saenz once said, "I can't believe I'm so old and not able to live longer"
