Catherine Young

Catherine Young, Carrie Lee to all that knew her, was the first-born daughter of John Z. Leyendecker and Elizabeth Leyendecker. She married the love of her life, William N. Young on February 22, 1947. Together they had four children, Catherine, Bill Jr., John G., and Karen Ann.

Carrie retired from Farco Mining and traveled extensively with her daughter Karen and her family in her retirement. She had many wonderful memories of her travels in England, Hawaii and Australia.

A sports enthusiast her entire life, she discovered a passion for hockey when the Laredo Bucks came to Laredo. She was a dedicated season ticket holder and could be found in section 102 at every game.

She was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church since it was established; she attended mass there every Sunday and she loved her Parish community.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, John Z. and Elizabeth Leyendecker; her husband, William N. Young; her son, John G. Young; and her younger brother, Ernest "Sonny" Leyendecker.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Catherine E. Young, William N. Young, Jr. (Leslie) and Karen Ann Roark (Terren); and by her stepdaughter, Sandra Whigman Young. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Charlotte, Victoria and Sapphire Young, Christopher and Fallon Roark, Shannon (Bill) McNutt and Jacqui Spiller. She has one great-grandson, Julius Washington. She is further survived by her brother, David (Nancy) Leyendecker as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
