Carolina C. Treviño peacefully entered into eternal rest on the evening of October 7th 2018 in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by her family.
She was born on December 07, 1925 in Port Huron, Michigan to Santos and Maria Cantu and grew up in Alice, Texas. After marriage, our parents resided in Palestine, Texas where Carolina was devoted to raising her three children. Moving to Laredo in 1964, she returned to teaching. After 40 years living in Laredo, Texas, she enjoyed the last 15 years with her daughters, sons-in-law, and granddaughters in San Antonio, Texas.
After graduating from Southeastern State Teachers University in Durant, Oklahoma; Carolina began her career as a teacher at F.B. Nayer and Salazar Elementary Schools in Alice, Texas; and Buenos Aires and Alma Pierce Elementary Schools in Laredo, Texas respectively. She often mentioned how much she loved being a teacher and adored all her students. In 1975 she was recognized as an Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America. Carolina was involved with various organizations to include: the Auxiliary at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Alpha Delta Kappa, Zahara Caravan #64 – Order of Alhambra, Laredo Area Retired School Employees Assn, Laredo Teachers Classroom Assn, Texas State and other teacher associations. During her children’s school years, she was active with: the Ursuline Academy PTA, St. Peter’s PTA and later the Lamar and Nixon Band Parents’ Associations. After retirement, she was a member of the Guadalupe Catholic School Board and would substitute when needed. Carolina was an active parishioner of San Luis Rey Catholic Church for almost 40 years and was a Christian Doctrine teacher. In addition to her own interests, she was very supportive of her husband’s involvement in church, community and civic endeavors.
Carolina instilled in her children and granddaughters a love for God, family, and friends. In addition, the importance of education was stressed upon her children and granddaughters. She shared her passion for the arts, understanding different cultures, and travel adventures with her family. Fond memories were created with travels to Europe, Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. and attending many musicals and concerts. In her later years, she kept up with the news and telenovelas. Carolina especially looked forward to visits from her cherished granddaughters; listening to their interests, adventures and future dreams. She attended their school, sport and dancing activities, birthday and holiday celebrations often expressing how extremely proud she was of all their accomplishments. Every endeavor brought tremendous joy to her and our Dad.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Enrique “Henry” Treviño Sr.; her son, Enrique “Henry” Treviño Jr.; her parents; sisters-in-law and their husbands, Esperanza and Jesus Marroquin, Isabel and Alex Canales, Dolores and Sam Cuellar, and Lucila and Vidal Treviño; as well as by numerous nephews and dear friends.
Carolina is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Ana Maria and David Garcia, and Lucy and George Delgado; granddaughters, Dr. Elina Delgado, Analysa Delgado, and Marissa Ariana Garcia; sisters, Gladys de Velarde of Laredo, TX, Carmen Searles of Lafayette, LA, and Christina Gonzales of Arlington, TX; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to extend our immense gratitude for the excellent care provided by: Dr. Sandra Sanchez-Riley, George Fox and Yvonne Talamantes from Vitas Hospice, and Deacon Wilbur Hoelscher who visited weekly to pray with Mom and give her communion. Our family could not have done this alone without the loving and devoted care given by Graciela which enabled Mom to remain in her own home. Over these last five years Mom enjoyed visits, calls, and cards especially from her sisters, nieces, Mary Ann Colin and Janie Munoz, and friends; Tita Ketola, Viola Garcia (†), Blazita Flores, and Stephanie McNeal.
