Carmen Alvarez

Carmen G. Alvarez, 91, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Sunday, August 29, 2021.

Carmen started her working career at Southwestern Bell as a switchboard operator. After marrying, she joined her husband, Amando, in their new business venture. They owned and operated Laredo Barber & Beauty Supply and Laredo Beauty Store serving the community of Laredo and Nuevo Laredo for over 45 years. Carmen was a devoted Catholic and made countless pilgrimages to Medjugorje, and Lourdes, France. She was very involved in the Catholic church as a lector and eucharistic minister. She traveled into Mexico often with Father Davis and the church community doing missionary work.  Carmen passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord surrounded by her loving children. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jose Maldonado, the Altus Hospice & staff, and her caregivers (Lydia, Adela, Blanca, and Suzana).

She was preceded in death by her husband; Amando A. Alvarez Sr., parents; Jose and Aurora Gonzalez, siblings; Adela Gonzalez, Aurora A. Gonzalez, Irma (Pedro) Ramirez, Alicia (Weldon) Willis, Robert O. (Alicia) Gonzalez and Jose (Refugia) Gonzalez.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children; Carmen (Tomas) Casiano, Dolores (Hector) Martinez, Amanda (Hector) Garcia, Amando (Gabby) Alvarez, Jr. She is further survived by her grandchildren; Carmen T. (Jorge) Vasquez, Alejandra Virjan, Hector M. Martinez, III., Isaias A. Martinez, Briana K. Martinez, Meriel Garcia, Joshua Garcia, Amando A. Alvarez, III., Gabriela Alvarez, Valeria Alvarez, Victoria Alvarez, Zophia Alvarez, and 3 great-grandchildren; Vanessa Vasquez, Isaiah Gutierrez and Charlie Cantu.

The family will be receiving condolences on Saturday morning, September 4, 2021 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 9:30 a.m.

The Funeral Procession will be departing at 10:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to Christ the King Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.

Pallbearers will be: Amando A.  Álvarez, Jr., Amando A. Álvarez III, Héctor García, Joshua García, Héctor M. Martínez III, Isaías A. Martínez, Tomas Casiano and Jorge Vázquez.
