Carlos Raymundo Martinez

March 10, 1936-July 11, 2023

Mr. Carlos Raymundo Martinez, 87, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

Carlos was born on March 10, 1936, to Roque Jacinto and Evelia Martinez in Laredo, Texas.  He graduated from Martin High School in 1954.  In 1958, he was drafted into the US Army.  He worked as a dental assistant and served at Camp Howze in Bongilchon, South Korea.  He was honorably discharged in 1960.

After returning home to Laredo, Carlos continued serving our country as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service.  He was a member of Branch 354 of the National Association of Letter Carriers.  His first mail routes were delivered using a bicycle – rain or shine, hot or cold.  He received a service award upon retirement in 2004 for 43 years of dedicated service.

He spent his post-retirement years doing what he loved most – visiting the family ranch, fixing up his grandparents’ home in the old Azteca neighborhood, working on old cars, and driving his truck around town.  He loved animals and could never turn away from a stray dog.  He relished reading his daily newspapers with his morning coffee.  His freezer was always fully stocked with ice cream, and he loved his meals at Luby’s.

He will be greatly missed by his sister, Evelia Sylvia Olvera; sisters-in-law, Maria Cristina Martinez and Sylvia Martinez; close friend, Carmen Palacios; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends; and his faithful companion, Whitey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roque Jacinto and Evelia Martinez; siblings, Roque Jacinto Martinez, Jr., Eduardo R. Martinez, Maria Teresa Gonzaba, David E. Martinez, and Alberto D. Martinez.  We are comforted knowing he is reunited with his family and once again living the “good ol’ days.”

The family would like to express their most heartfelt gratitude to: Elsa Albarran Hernandez, for over 20 years of loyal friendship and service to Carlos, especially during his final months; Angels of Comfort caregivers, David Medrano, Jazmin Calles, Javier Villalobos, and Lucia Riojas; and Altus Hospice.

The family will be receiving condolences on Monday evening, July 17, 2023, from 5pm to 9pm at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez, where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday morning, July 18, 2023, departing at 8:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by Fort Sam and Laredo Veteran’s Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be David Martinez, Jr., Joseph R. Martinez, Jorge Martinez, Roque Martinez, Eduardo R. Martinez, Jr., Ruben J. Olvera, Randy Austin, and Alonzo J. Olivarez, Jr.
