God called upon the soul of Carlos Chavez to rest on Sunday morning, January 18, 2015. Carlos was surrounded by his loving family when God called him home and will forever be in the arms of our heavenly father. Carlos was drafted to join the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, having served during the war and returning to Ft. Hood ending his service, thus moving to Chicago in 1971, then returning to Laredo to make it his home. In the early 1970's, a budding relationship began with the woman of his dreams, Elma, in the Plaza of San Agustin. This relationship fulfilled all of God's promises of faithfulness and family. Together, Carlos and Elma had two children which God blessed them with. Both were members and pillars of San Vicente de Paul Catholic Church in South Laredo. Together they helped evangelize and spread God's word to all his children. Both were members of the Baptismal Preparation Team, Sponsor Couple, Adult Catechesis Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Communion, as well as other duties God called them to serve in. The community and its pastors will never forget the countless hours spent putting together the booths for the Jamaica's. A great loss is felt throughout the entire church community at San Vicente as well as his entire family. Carlos left a legacy full of love, charity, humbleness, and faith. All who knew him, will forever carry him in their hearts and minds. "Blessed are they who have died in the Lord; May they now rest from their labors, for their good deeds go with them." He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Esteban and Antonia Chavez. Carlos is survived by his beloved wife, Elma Chavez; children, Carlos Esteban (Linda A.) Chavez, Elma (Nicolas Jr.) Zapata; grandchildren, Rebecca Chavez, Lizette A, Chavez, Nicolas Zapata III, Carlos Emiliano Zapata, Esteban Zapata; siblings, Francisca Chavez, Dominga (Ricardo) Lopez, Ramon (Juany) Chavez, Victor (Leticia) Chavez, Margarita Chavez; parents in law, Manuel and Guadalupe Rodriguez; brothers and sisters in law, Manuel (San Juana) Rodriguez Jr., Nora (Jose Luis) Casarez, Juan (Imelda) Rodriguez, Norma (Cesar) Martinez, Javier (Hortencia) Rodriguez, Lupita (Roberto) Valdez, Sylvia Rodriguez, Jorge Gilberto Rodriguez; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other loved relatives and friends.
