BERTHA GARCIA HERRERA

January 2, 1934 – November 14, 2021

Bertha Garcia Herrera, 87, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Sunday, November 14, 2021.

Bertha was born to Jesus and Dolores Villarreal in Laredo, TX.  The family moved to Hebbronville, TX where Bertha attended elementary and Jr High.  Later, the family returned to Laredo, TX. Bertha graduated from San Agustine High School in 1955.  She married and had 7 children.  Bertha worked for LISD for 28 years. She retired from J. W. Nixon where she had worked as a library clerk.  Her greatest joy was cooking for her children and later her grandchildren.  A devout Catholic and dedicated member of San Martin de Porres Catholic Church.  She served as a catechist and Alter Society Member.  During her retirement years she enjoyed attending Eucharistic Adoration, daily Mass, spending time with family and friends.  She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Jesus and Dolores Garcia, son, Ramon (Raymond) Herrera and siblings; Arturo Garcia and Lydia Sanchez.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children; Arturo (Janine) Herrera, Iris (Willie) Lopez, Maria Ingrid Herrera, Barbara Ida (Peter) Arredondo, Anna Laura (Remigio) Garza, Roberto Gerardo (Elizabeth) Herrera, sisters; Elvia (Phillip+) Sulak, Alicia (Fidel+) Perez, Norma (Raul+) Guevara, D. Sylvia (Rudolph) Martinez. She is further survived by her favorite grandson, whom she loved as her own son; David M. Gonzales, and granddaughter Gaby Arredondo and by 11 grandchildren.

The family will be receiving condolences on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday morning, November 20, 2021 departing at 8:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Rene Gerardo Perez, Gilbert Perez, Rolando Perez, Roberto Gerardo Herrera, David Martin Gonzales, and Remigio Garza

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Peter D. Arredondo Sr and Willie Lopez
