BERTA S. GUTIERREZ
NOVEMBER 29, 1917 – MAY 24, 2017
Mrs. Berta S. Gutierrez, 99, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.
Mrs. Gutierrez was born in Laredo and lived here all her life. She attended public schools and graduated from Laredo High School with honors and received a major “L” award for General Excellence; and was also master of ceremonies for her class of 1934. She attended Laredo Jr. College taking evening classes and received an Associate of Arts degree in May 1978. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, reading, and music.
Berta worked several years at Laredo Public Schools and 36 years at Laredo National Bank, enjoying both school and work. She also belonged to several Bridge Clubs. She loved playing bridge and used to say she liked to play for the love of the game.
She traveled extensively with her husband every year to cities in the U.S. one year and the next to cities in Mexico. After his death, she traveled with her friends to Europe.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Otila G. Salinas; her beloved husband, Romeo who passed away September 1, 1966. She is also preceded in death by her sister Amelia Salinas and Diana (Jeffrey Czar); her brothers, Daniel Salinas and Rogelio Salinas.
She is survived by her brother Cesar J. (Sara) Salinas; sisters-in-law, Sylvia (Rogelio+) Salinas, and Anita (Daniel+) Salinas. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving condolences on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.; with a Rosary being recited at 9:00 a.m.
Funeral procession will then depart the chapel to Christ the King Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.
Pallbearers will be: Jose A. Salinas, Guillermo (Memo) Salinas, Ricky Moreno, David Shinn, Travis A. Salinas, and Peter Gonzales, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be: Cesar J. Salinas, Jeffrey Czar, and Peter A. Gonzales.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
