Berta Gonzalez

Berta C. Gonzalez, 79, entered the glorious gates of heaven on October 13, 2011. Berta was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph's Church where she used her tremendous talent of voice to praise the Lord. She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy and worked at Lafone's Pharmacy and Laredo Independent School District as a teacher aide for the migrant program and later as a substitute teacher. She always stressed the importance of a good education to all the students she services and many looked up to her with admiration. She had a charismatic personality, always had a huge smile and an encouraging word to all she came across. She was loved by many.

Berta C. Gonzalez's faith in God allowed her to fight diabetes all her life and cancer twice. She never gave up hope and did not fear death. She believed that as long as she had Jesus, our Lord, to her right, our Blessed Mother to her left and God the Father above her, she had no reason to be afraid. She is and will always be an example of strength and courage.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerardo and Luisa B. Cavazos; her brother, Rodolfo Cavazos; her sister, Maria Elena Cavazos; and her parents in law, Bernabe and Fernanda Gonzalez.

Berta is survived by her husband of 52 years, Abran Gonzalez; her sons, Rodolfo B. Gonzalez, Abran Gonzalez Jr., David R. Gonzalez, Emmanuel J. (Claudia) Gonzalez; her daughters, Alicia (Juan Martin) Madrigal, Norma H. Gonzalez; sister, Alicia Cavazos; brother, Gerardo Cavazos; daughters in law, Elsa A. Gonzalez, Araceli Gonzalez; grandchildren, Nohemi-R. Gonzalez, Luis A. Gonzalez, Anthony B. (Amy) Gonzalez, Elena A. Gonzalez, Samuel P. Gonzalez, David M. Gonzalez, Elisa A. Gonzalez, Joseph Gonzalez, Juan Martin Madrigal II, Abram Gonzalez, and Samuel Gonzalez.
