BEATRIZ MERLA SALINAS

MARCH 6, 1934 – APRIL 6, 2019

Mrs. Beatriz Merla Salinas, 85, entered into the loving presence of her Lord and Savior, having been surrounded by her loving family.

At a very young age Beatriz showed her innate entrepreneurial skills as she grew up working in her late father’s business, Casa Merla. It was the experiences she gained working alongside her father, Don Jose Merla, that built her strong business skills and steadfast character. Shortly after her marriage to the late Romulo Salinas Vasquez, whom she was married to for 43 years, the couple moved to Laredo.

Her business savvy helped her save her late father’s business in Nuevo Laredo and transform it into a profitable and flourishing enterprise. She went on to establish her own business in Laredo and had to use creativity and ingenuity to adjust to the changing business environment in order for the business to survive and later thrive. Through it all, Beatriz did not falter but used a survivalist business instinct that all successful businesses use, adaptability. In her latter years, Beatriz enjoyed income provided from her rental properties business.

These accomplishments set the example for her family that having an unwavering devotion to God, a strong work ethic and a generous spirit that can turn life’s challenges into successes. Despite all of her accomplishments, what she valued the most was her family and raising successful, industrious children and grandchildren who became administrators, computer scientists, educators, engineers, medical professionals, and real estate business entrepreneurs.

She loved being in the company of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as she could see God’s blessings and goodness manifested in their lives. She will always be remembered as a strong-willed, caring, devoted, supportive and loving matriarch.
