On Sunday, July 23, 2017, Aurora V. Cortez began her journey of eternal rest in heaven from Laredo Medical Center in Laredo, Texas. Mrs. Cortez was born in Hidalgo, Texas, on January 1, 1920. She later resided, along with her family, in Harlingen, Texas, until she met Mario Cortez, her dear and beloved husband of 32 years and moved to Laredo, Texas.
At one time, Mrs. Cortez worked and helped prepare meals at Lamar Middle School and M.S. Ryan Elementary School. Aurora and Mario had their most happy and enjoyable times going to their “little ranchito” where family and friends would often join them. Aurora’s cooking was revered by all who had the pleasure of eating her delicious meals, especially, her menudo, tamales, cabrito, ojarascas, and homemade tortillas de harina for her mariachis. She was a kind and loveable lady who enjoyed life to the fullest and loved all her family and friends. Truly, she will be missed by all that she touched during her life. Most of all she will be greatly missed by Laura, her daughter, to whom she was not only her mother, but her “best friend” and will always be in her prayers. Goodbye Mom and farewell, give my dad a kiss for me and tell him I love him.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Feliciana Valadez, her late husband, Mario Cortez, her sisters, Carolina V. Sosa, Concepcion V. Balli, Juanita V. Nava, Susie V. Herrera, Jovita V. Pena, and Julia V. Gonzalez.
She is survived by Laura (Rogelio) Rios, Jr., daughter, Roberto Emilio (Delia) Cortez, son, Alberto (Juanita) Cortez, son, Olga Dancause, sister in law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lest not forget and thank all the wonderful persons who cared for Aurora, Dr. Dennis Cantu, Dr. Joseph Camero, Dr. Manuel Gonzalez, Dr. Guillermo Salinas Puga, Dr. Ramon Soriano, Dr. Daniel Bell, the staff and nurses at Laredo Medical Center, inclusive of Iris, Jessica, Erica, Samantha, Juanita, Amanda, Eddie and Hugo, the staff of Healing Hands and Meals on Wheels, and her personal caregivers, Carmen, Teresa, Annie, Tere and Mari. Thank you all for caring and giving your kind attention to Aurora.
We would also like to thank Rev. Msgr, James Harris, Rev. P. Nolasco Hinojosa, and Rev. Iden Bello for their prayers and support given to Aurora and her family.
