Ashlyn Laureen Chavez
March 17, 1998 – February 18, 2025
It is with deep sorrow and profound gratitude that we announce the passing of Ashlyn L. Chavez, who graced our lives from March 17, 1998, until her untimely departure on February 18, 2025. Ashlyn was a strong and courageous young woman. At the age of 26, after a valiant battle with cancer, she faced life’s challenges with unwavering strength, grace, and resilience.
Despite her diagnosis, Ashlyn never gave up on her dreams. With determination and perseverance, she continued her studies and, even while undergoing treatment, achieved her goal of completing her bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M International University on December 12, 2024. Her unwavering spirit and dedication were an inspiration to all who knew her. Ashlyn’s graduation cap motto was: “Grateful for where I’m at, excited about where I’m going.”
She was a beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend whose kindness, determination, and warmth touched everyone she met. She is preceded in death by her loving mother, Orelia Chavez; paternal grandfather, Alberto Chavez; and maternal grandfather, Paulino Perez Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her father, Alberto Chavez Jr.; sister, Kathleen N. Chavez; grandmothers, Maria V. Chavez and Orelia Perez; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Beyond her strength and academic accomplishments, Ashlyn lived her life with love, laughter, and an unbreakable will, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She cherished family gatherings, where she found joy in celebrating special occasions surrounded by those she loved. She enjoyed the delicious home-cooked meals prepared by her family, bringing everyone together through laughter and shared moments.
Ashlyn deeply loved to travel, especially her cherished trips to Disney, where she found joy, magic, and adventure. She shared a special bond of love and admiration with her older and only sister, who was her role model and closest confidante. Her father stood as her loving supporter through every step of her journey, offering unwavering strength, guidance, and encouragement.
A special thanks to her "angels"—her devoted aunts—who stood by her side with love, care, and unwavering support during this difficult time. Their kindness and dedication brought her comfort and strength, and their love will forever be a part of her legacy. Special thanks to the dedicated physicians who stood by her during this difficult time: Dr. Zuniga-Goldwater, Dr. Mahani, and Dr. Goytia-Barragan.
Pallbearers will be: Ernesto Barajas Jr., Ruben M. Chapa, Aizar Medina, Ray Mendiola, Ramon Mendiola, III., Marcus Moreno, Lorenzo Perez, Paulino Perez III., Andy Talamantes Jr., and Kevin Talamantes.
