Antonio Salinas, 87, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

Don Antonio was born in General Trevino Nuevo Leon to a son and daughter of the Mexican revolt of 1910. He would visit the valley to work as a young man. His American dream came true even though he did not have that many skills as his kids have. He never got a traffic ticket in his life. He is the reason some of us believe on God and going to church. He would drive to Chicago from Mexico in the 60s with wife and kids. Reason some of his offspring were born in Illinois. He managed to make sure his kids always had a roof and a meal. May the Lord have mercy on his soul.(jas.)

Dad work in the construction of the Falcon Dam. He would always say it was an honored working in there. Every time we cross the Falcon Dam he would have a big smile and would say I help to build it. It was in the 1950’s. (baf)

It was when we would go visit my grandparents in Mexico everytime we pass by there. My dad took us every summer to work all ten kids till each one finish high school at the agriculture fields to pick onions, cucumbers, oranges, strawberries and weeding with a hoe eight hours a day sunrise to sunset. We never knew a 110 degree summer of Laredo until we finish high school and the kid that graduate was either working in a job of his choice and making their living or off to college. Which what my father wanted for each kid to chose Education as far as we wanted to go so we didn’t struggle in society. Woop our bottoms to respect authority and good manners. (gsw)

In his end days his mind was not all there but he was fighting to stay sane. His grandchildren heard his funny sayings and how we got to move him which anyone with a love one with mental injury know we have to get in their world to have him keep moving in this life, “No estoy peleado con la agua, Mejor me bano el 30 de febrero”, “ Cuanto dinerito tienes para mi” (vrs), “Chaparro manoso”, (jfa) ‘No, no drop me off at the ranch I’ll sleep there”. His last morning was praying with his grandson to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Paula Salinas; grandchildren, Fernando Carlos and Andres Salinas and great granddaughter Victoria Arlene Salinas and his five brothers and six sisters.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Manfredo (Fernanda) Salinas and family, Juan A. Salinas and family, Maria Salinas and family, Esteban Salinas and family, Bernardo (Magdalena) Salinas and family, Lupita (Jim) Watson and family, Viges Salinas and family, Domingo (Elsa) Salinas and family, Bertha (Henry) Flores, Ramon (Adriana) Salinas and family; grandsons, Victor Salinas, Josue Alvarado, Daniel Salinas, Manfredo Jr. Salinas; grandchildren, John (Carolyn) Watson and family, and Araceli (Eddie) Perez and family. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends and our mother Sra. Elena Salinas.

The family will be receiving condolences on Sunday evening, February 7, 2021 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday morning, February 8, 2021 at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels for a chapel service at 10:00 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Manfredo Jr. Salinas, Victor Salinas, Josue Alvarado, Daniel Salinas, John Antonio Watson, Jacob Salinas, Cody Salinas, Bernardo Junior Salinas, Mauricio Salinas.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: The Salinas Family Manfredo, Bernardo, Esteban, Domingo, Juan Antonio, Ramon Salinas and Henry Flores, Jim Watson.

The family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to: Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ .
