ANTONIO A. PEREZ, SR., 89, passed away on May 3, 2013.-He was a lifelong resident of Laredo, Texas, and graduated from Martin High School in 1941. He enrolled at Texas A & M College in 1941 and then joined the U. S. Army in 1943. During his military service, he completed Infantry training at Camp Roberts, California, Combat Engineering training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri; and completed Mechanical Engineering studies at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana with the Army Specialized Training Program. He served in the China Burma India Theater of war in Calcutta, India for one year and then received an honorable discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1946. He returned to Texas A & M College and completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1948. After graduation, he returned to Laredo and was employed at the U.S. International Boundary and Water Commission until 1949. He then went to work with the Laredo Waterworks system for 32 years and retired as General Manager in 1981.
Antonio was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church for over 60 years, Boy Scout Troop 204 advisor, founding member of the Laredo A&M club, past president of the Laredo Kiwanis Club, and past president of the Texas Section of the American Waterworks Association.
Mr. Perez was preceded in death by his parents, Filomeno Perez and Belen Garza Perez and his wife of 58 years, Graziella Guerra Perez.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his beloved sons Antonio A. Perez, Jr. and his wife Elaine, Ricardo E. Perez and his wife Robin, and David D. Perez and his wife Patricia. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lisa Perez and husband John Hale, Paul Perez, Daniel Perez, Phillip Perez, Katherine Perez, and great granddaughter Mary Hale.
