Tio Tony, as he was fondly called by his family, will be greatly missed. Tony was born in Laredo, Texas on December 18, 1917. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emilio, Sr. and Elvira F. Garza; also by his brother, Emilio Garza, Jr.; and sisters, Esther Cedillo, Amalia G. Vela, Aurora G. Trevino and Elena G. Cisneros. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and great grandnieces and nephews. Tio Tony will be fondly remembered not only for his commitment to the church and his strong work ethics, but also for his kind heartedness. Tony proudly served the Lord as a "Sacristan" at San Agustin Cathedral for over 65 years and rarely missed a Sunday service. He began his service to the church at the age of 21 and greatly enjoyed serving the church and its parishioners. He was also proud of the fact that he and his older brother, Emilio, ran their beloved "Tendajo", Guadalupe Trevino Grocery Store, which was located downtown for about 45 years. After the store closed down, Tony didn't slow down he kept physically fit by walking in the mornings to run errands and by helping his niece, Virginia Trevino, with her maintenance business. Tony enjoyed life and his favorite pass time was gardening because it brought him serenity. Tony's family will always remember him for his love of music, dancing, oyster cocktail with a Tecate, having a highball or "jaibolitos" as he called them, but most of all for his generosity and loving heart. A special thank you to nephews and nieces, Carlos and Cordelia Orengo, Elvira A. Garza, Rolando and Patricia Gonzalez, Emilio Garza, III, and Felipe J., Jr. and Tatiana Cisneros, for their utmost loving care of Tio Tony during his struggle with a long term illness. Their unselfishness and love was God sent. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the care and support provided by Veronica Silva, Coqui Hernandez, Esther Sanchez, Rosa Avalos, Robert Lerma, and Aurelio Brizuelas, Tony's longtime dear friend.
