Anita Maria Vasquez Cortez

Anita Maria Vasquez Cortez, a beloved member of the Laredo community, passed away on March 10, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on June 9, 1931, in Laredo, TX, Anita was a dedicated individual who achieved a Bachelor's Degree. After graduating from Ursuline Academy in Laredo, TX and Incarnate Word College with a degree in nursing, she pursued various careers, excelling as a registered nurse, school teacher, and Auxillary Volunteer before ultimately becoming the Executive Director of Laredo Family Planning.

Anita's passion for serving the community was evident in her work at the Family Planning organization, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of many individuals. Her dedication to helping others will always be remembered and cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gregorio Cortez, Sr.; parents, Salvador and Josefa Vasquez; her siblings, Felipe Vasquez, Geronimo Vasquez, and Margarita Tenorio Vasquez. 

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Francisco Xavier (Lisa G.) Cortez, Marie Delilies (Ciro Rene) Gonzalez, and Gregorio (Lily E.) Cortez; grandchildren, Michael Anthony Gonzalez, Ciro Rene Gonzalez, II., Amanda Lynn Cortez, Cross Cortez, and Alesandra Renee Cortez; great-grandchildren, Axel Anthony Gonzalez, Asher Gael Gonzalez, and Atlas Gonzalez; brothers, Raul (Sonia) Vasquez, and Fernando († Teresa Vidaurri) Vasquez; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday evening, March 14, 2024 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday morning, March 15, 2024 departing at 8:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to St. John Neumann Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
