Anita Palacios Macdonald passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, December 27, 2013. "And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die." John 11:26 The third of five children, Anita was born on August 3, 1924, to Carlos Gilberto and Rosa Maria Palacios. She was raised in Laredo, and graduated from Saint Peter's Academy. She married George Edward Macdonald, Sr., of New Orleans, Louisiana on June 16, 1945. She has been a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother for 68 years. Anita believed devoutly in her faith and her church, Blessed Sacrament, where she taught CCD classes, sang in the choir, participated in the Altar Society and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a Lady in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. Anita was a lifelong member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Society of Martha Washington where she served as an officer in various capacities which included president, and portrayed Martha Washington. Anita began her career working as a secretary in the County Court of Laredo and at the Laredo Air Force Base. She was also a kindergarten teacher at McBride's Pre-School, and a GED and Project Hope instructor of nursing students at Laredo Community College. She instilled in everyone the importance of a strong and diverse education. Throughout her life, Anita acquired many great passions. Anita and George enjoyed traveling to various parts of the world. She was an entertainer who loved a party and a dance. She was an avid card player of canasta and bridge. She was a successful competitive bridge player who always enjoyed teaching others the game. She is preceded in death by her parents: Carlos and Rosa Palacios; parents-in-law: George Douglas and May Macdonald; her siblings: Carlos and Mary Dorothy Palacios, Rosa and Alfredo Gonzalez, Josephine and Fernando Zuniga, Jose Palacios; and brother-in-law: Frank and Yvonne Macdonald. Anita is survived by her husband: George Edward Macdonald, Sr.; her children: Douglas (Diane) Macdonald, George Edward (Rosie) Macdonald, Jr., Ann (Lucio) Macdonald; her grandchildren: Scotch Macdonald, Kendra Morales, Reagan Roberts, Ericka Barrera, George Macdonald III., and Jason Macdonald; great-grandchildren: Chase, William, Madison, Ian, George IV, Douglas, Max, Katelyn, Ava, Noah, Sofia, and Olivia; sister-in-law: Josette Palacios, and her cousin Bessie Dodier. Our family would like to express sincere appreciation for the care provided by Monsignor Stanley Sliwiak, Dr. Joaquin Cigarroa, Dr. Eduardo Miranda; the nurses at Doctor's Hospital Cancer Center, Laredo Medical Center, Global Nursing, and her caregivers Amalia, Mari, and Eva. In celebration of her life a visitation was held Friday, December 27, 2013 at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring @ Cortez from 5 to 9 in the evening, with a Rosary celebrated at 7 in the evening. Funeral Services will be held this morning, Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a Holy Mass at 9:30 a.m. Everyone is encouraged to meet at church. Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. "Well done thou good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:21
