Amelia Acevedo Benavides July 12, 1929 - April 20, 2015 "Your memory is our keepsake with which we will never part. God has you in His Keeping, we have you in our hearts." Amelia Acevedo Benavides, 85, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 20, 2015. She was born on July 12, 1929 in Laredo, Texas. Amelia attended Martin High and graduated in 1947. She started work right out of high school at the Union National Bank from 1947 to 1973 as an executive secretary. She joined the Missouri Pacific Railroad from 1973 to 1979 in the traffic department. In 1979 she was hired at the International Bank of Commerce as an assistant vice-president and retired after 27 years in 2002 as a vice president. Amelia's memory will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her best -her family, friends and her co-workers. She loved her family and supported them in all their endeavors. Over the years, she worked actively on her class reunion gatherings. She enjoyed her family, her friends, her garden, her music and traveling to Branson, Nashville, Memphis, Las Vegas and New York City. She attended theatrical productions locally and out of town. Amelia is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfonso Benavides; her son, Victor Daniel; parents, Juan and Amelia Acevedo; and her brother Juan Jose Acevedo. She is survived by her children, Alfonso Benavides, Jr. of San Antonio, Norma Benavides, Grace (Virgil) Hines and Elsa Benavides, all from Laredo; grandchildren, Victor Daniel (Melissa) Benavides, Jr., Severino (Cordy) Sarabia, Jr., Annie (Eric Schonn) Sarabia and Amanda Judith Sarabia, all from Austin; great-grandchildren, Sebastyan Sarabia and Viviana Sarabia; and her sister Beatriz Acevedo Almaraz. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family and friends. The Benavides family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Reynaldo Godines, Dr. Eduardo Miranda, Dr. Luis Benavides, and the Nurses on Wheels Hospice staff. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez; where a chapel service will commence at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Msgr. James Harris. Rite of Committal and interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
