AMADOR “PITO” HINOJOSA JR.
April 05, 1923 – January 02, 2018
Amador Hinojosa Jr., known as “Pito”, passed away on January 02, 2018, at the age of 94.
He has gone to meet his Queen of McAllen, Estella G. Hinojosa. “Amor” as he was called by his loved ones, left us on what would have been his 70th wedding anniversary. Estella and Amor are finally reunited and are drinking champagne together in Heaven.
Amador, an Honored WWII Vet for the U.S. Air Force, lived a blessed life. A native of Pharr, TX, Amador attended Mission High School. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Airforce where he was the Corporal 563rd Bombardment Squadron and served in WWII. Amador flew a B17 from 1942 – 1946. His plane was shot down in the English Channel and was the only survivor. Mr. Hinojosa had earned the Distinguished Unit Badge, 4 Overseas Service Bars, EAME Campaign Medal with 6 Bronze Stars during his time of service.
In 1946, He began his career at Missouri Pacific Railroad as a ticket agent in Brownsville, TX. In 1963, he was promoted to Laredo, TX as a Train Master. In the early eighties, Missouri Pacific was bought by Union Pacific, were once again Amador was promoted to Superintendent of South Texas Sector until his retirement in 1984 when he was 61 years old. During his retirement he was asked to Americanize the Railroad in Argentina. Amador and Estella lived in Argentina for two years providing service to the Pope.
Amador was known as the life of the party and was also known for his lavish parties. Many people referred to him as the Mexican John Wayne (which he loved to watch his movies every Saturday at the Plaza Movie Theater). He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather, husband, and friend.
Our father was our hero. He was a man full of wisdom, knowledge, and hard work ethics. He lived a fabulous life, very giving and very generous. He will be missed dearly.
Amador is survived by his brother, Ruben Aaron Hinojosa; his children, Veronica (Raul) Hinojosa Tijerina, Vilma (James) Hinojosa Volz, Viola (William) Hinojosa Rees, Juan Jose J.J. (Rebecca) Hinojosa, David (Mauree) Hinojosa; his loving grandchildren, Shannon Quinn, Siobhan Quinn, Billy (Nancy) Rees, Andrea Christina Mercado, Evan Martin (Elisa Fernandez) Rees, Thomas Edward Rees, Alberto Arturo Mercado, Eduardo Miguel Mercado, Hunter Hinojosa, Hannah L.
