Alma Yadira Mendiola

August 29, 1980 — July 12, 2022

Laredo, Texas

Alma Yadira Mendiola, 41, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.

Alma was a loving wife, mother, friend, and educator. Her life began on August 29, 1980 in Laredo, Texas. She grew up in a home with her 3 siblings under the care of her mother and father, Santa & Agustin Hernandez. At 14 years old, she met the person she’d spend the rest of her life with, David Mendiola. After graduating from J.W. Nixon High School, she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas in Brownsville. She devoted 15 years of her life to being an educator with her most recent role being a Special Education Resource Teacher at K. Tarver Elementary School. All this while caring for her three beautiful children, Karyme, Brandon, and Giancarlo.

In her spare time, Alma could be found spending time with her family, talking to friends, cultivating her love of learning, or rescuing stray cats. She had a way of connecting with people that always included lots of laughter. She made everyone feel comfortable enough to express themselves authentically. Never did she hesitate to lend a helping hand, be a pillar of support, or go the extra mile for those who she loved. Alma was a special soul, one that is truly irreplaceable and will forever be missed.

She was preceded in passing by her mother, Santos Hernandez.
