ALICIA VELA GONZALEZ SEPTEMBER 19, 1923-AUGUST 09, 2016

Mrs. Alicia Vela Gonzalez, 92, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 09, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her father Mr. Aureliano Vela Pea; her mother who raised her, Mrs. Irene M. Vela; her birth mother, Beatriz M. Vela; her brother Roberto A. Vela, her sisters, Piedad Vela and Laurentina Vela; sister-in-law Tirsa G. Vela and brother in law: Roberto Rodriguez Sr.

Alicia found peace in the Lord and is now resting with him in paradise. 52 years ago or so, the story goes, Alicia met Juventino (Moy) at the Ernesto Martinez Grocery Store, located at the corner of Lexington and Garfield. Juventino was a butcher at the store, while Alicia worked as a "manager" per se, always getting her hands involved in every aspect of the business. She loved working alongside her family until the business closed in the late 1980's. Together, Alicia and Juventino raised a Loving family that will forever hold her in their memory.

Another one of her passions beside her family were her time spent at the family Ranch in Jim Hogg County, Los Arroyo's Ranch, a section located in the Vela Pea Ranch.

She is survived by her loving husband Juventino A. Gonzalez, Sr.; son, Juventino A. (Veronica) Gonzalez Jr.; grandchildren, Juventino A. (Tiffany) Gonzalez III, Jorge A. (Gina) Gonzalez, and Julissa A.G. (Eddie) Mendoza; great grandchildren, Janelle A. Gonzalez and Katelyn M. Mendoza; sister, Ernestina Vela Rodriguez as well as by her two sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, other beloved relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 12, 2016 at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 in the evening.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, August 13, 2016 departing the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. to Christ the King Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.

Cremation will follow at a later date.

Pallbearers will be: Roberto Rodriguez III, Ricardo Rodriguez Jr., Rene Rodriguez Jr., Roberto Rodriguez, Ruben Rodriguez, Antonio Gonzalez and Roy Cavazos.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Roberto Rodriguez Jr., Ricardo Rodriguez and Rene Rodriguez.
