Alicia A. Gonzalez entered peacefully onto eternal rest in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 4, 2018. Alicia fought a long, courageous battle with numerous conditions and as she grew weary she prayed that God call her home. Alicia was born in Laredo, TX on October 2, 1929 to Juan and Antonia Ayala. From early on, as a result of a catholic school education and her mother’s devotion to prayer, Alicia would become a diligent prayer warrior for her family. Together with her husband Roberto, she reared three children instilling in them a strong faith and exceptional work ethic.
Her family is forever grateful for the care provided by her only daughter, Alma Cavazos, with whom Alicia lived with for almost 11 years. The family is thankful to Father Alfredo Gaytan for his visits with Alicia as well as the support and prayers offered by many. The family is also very thankful for the loving care given to Alicia by Rosa, Kassandra, and Alejandra.
Alicia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roberto O. Gonzalez, her parents, Juan M. Ayala and Antonia Herrera Ayala, her sisters, Elvira Ayala, Maria del Refugio Ayala, and Olivia Ayala, and her brother, Raymundo Ayala.
Alicia is survived by her children, Roberto O. (Ruby) Gonzalez, Jr., Alma (Ricardo) Cavazos, and Luis R. (Lilia) Gonzalez; her grandchildren, Ricardo (Mary) Cavazos, Jr., Monica (Daniel) Villarreal, Roberto O. (Melissa) Gonzalez, III, and Karla (Rene) Gonzalez; her great-grandchildren, Andrea Gonzalez, Liliana Villarreal, Alexa Cavazos, Daniel Villarreal, Alessandra Cavazos, Roberto O. Gonzalez, IV, Rene Gonzalez, Luis R. Villarreal, Alani Cavazos, and Samuel Gonzalez. She is also survived by her sister, Armandina Ayala and her sisters-in-law, Alicia Willis, Maria del Refugio Gonzalez and Carmen Alvarez; her nephew, John Ayala as well as many nephews and nieces and other relatives.
The family will receive condolences on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapel, 719 Loring at Cortez; with visiting hours from 4 pm to 9 pm. A Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will be prayed at 7 pm.
Funeral procession will depart the chapel on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 9:40 am to Christ the King Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am.
Rite of Committal and Interment will proceed to the Laredo City Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband.
Pallbearers will be: Luis R. Gonzalez, Roberto O. Gonzalez Jr., Roberto O. Gonzalez, III, Ricardo Cavazos, Sr., Ricardo Cavazos, Jr., Juan M. Ayala, and Daniel Villarreal.
