July 29, 1949 – January 11, 2018

Alfredo “Freddy” Escobedo Sr., entered into eternal rest peacefully in his home surrounded by his family after losing a short battle with Cancer on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at the age of 68.

Freddy, as everyone knew him, served in the U.S. Military (Navy) from 1969 to 1971. He worked as a carman for 29 years with the Union Pacific Railroad. He had a love for the sport of baseball, where he volunteered his time for over 30 years serving in many capacities with Little League Baseball. During his time off, Freddy enjoyed spending time with his family cooking out at home and attending his grandchildren’s events. Freddy will always be remembered for his charisma. Everyone who knew Freddy, will always remember him as being a selfless individual who was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Maximino and Celia Vega; mother in law, Maria Teresa Leal; father, Alfonso Escobedo; his brother, Alejandro Escobedo; sister in law, Gloria Escobedo; brother in law, Ernesto Leal Jr.; and his grandson, Christian Alfredo Escobedo.

Alfredo is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Juana Argelia Escobedo; his children, Marissa Escobedo, Alfredo (Corina) Escobedo Jr., Gerardo (Krystal) Escobedo; grandchildren, Klarissa Jasso, Arturo Jasso III, Alfredo Escobedo III, Gerardo Escobedo Jr., Sebastian Escobedo; his mother, Rosa Escobedo; siblings, Alfonso Escobedo Jr., Maria Rosa (Oscar) Escobedo, Alberto (Margie) Escobedo, and Alonzo Escobedo; father in law, Ernesto Leal. In addition, numerous nieces, nephews, other loved relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel, 1410 Jacaman Rd. A Vigil for the Deceased and rosary will be celebrated at 7 p.m.

Funeral procession will depart at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from the funeral home to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.

Interment with Military Honors will then follow to the Laredo City Cemetery. Military Honors will be officiated by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be: Alfredo Escobedo, Jr., Gerardo Escobedo, Alfonso Escobedo, Alberto Escobedo, Oscar Escobedo and Dagoberto Gonzalez.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Rodolfo Lerma, Ramiro Sandoval, Amado Leal, Arnoldo Leal, Adrian Leal and Arturo Jasso, III.
