ALFONSO CHAPA
MAY 25, 1927 – OCTOBER 12, 2019
Mr. Alfonso Chapa, 92, entered into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 12, 2019.
Mr. Chapa was born on May 25, 1927 and was a lifelong resident of Laredo. After attending Martin High School, he joined the Army Air Force in August, 1945 and was Honorably discharged in 1947 after serving his tour in Italy. Upon his return, he then met and married the love of his life, Clarissa Noyola, in September, 1952; a marriage that would last for over 67 years and bear one daughter and four sons.
Mr. Chapa worked for American National Insurance Company for over 33 years as a District Sales Manager from August, 1958 until his retirement in June, 1991. He won numerous local, state and national awards, including the company’s prestigious “Top 10 Sales Agent of the Year” award multiple times, throughout his tenure with American National.
Mr. Chapa was a devoted and loving Husband, Father and Grandfather. He always worried about everyone before himself and always worked to ensure his family was united and loved. He was always the “life of the party” and known for his great sense of humor and wonderful “joke telling” abilities. He loved to cook and made a delicious menudo every year for Christmas.
Mr. Chapa and his wife, Clarissa, were world travelers and fortunate enough to have visited numerous countries in Europe, Asia, Central/South America and traveled extensively throughout Mexico and the United States. He was an active Board Member of the Boys & Girls Club of Laredo for several years and was one of the founding members of the Alhambra Club, a non-profit organization, established to award educational scholarships to worthy students in financial need. He was also a devoted parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and served (during the 1960-70’s) as President of the Blessed Sacrament Men’s Club, which would help organize and run the Church’s weekly Bingo events.
The family would especially like to give a special thanks to Dr’s. B. Huang, Chalit and Canova & Tammy Trevino, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, and ALL the staff in the LMC ICU Step Down Unit for their EXCELLENT & COMPASSIONATE medical care and professionalism they rendered to our father. They all went above and beyond their call of duty.
