On August 1st, 2016 Alex joined his mother Juanita Regal Villarreal and his father Alejandro Evaristo Villarreal Sr. in heaven.
His final years were spent enjoying time with his beautiful family, fishing, reminiscing memories and providing wisdom and sharing his experiences.
Alex was a community leader as Laredo grew into the thriving community it is today. He founded multiple businesses providing services to his community as an original downtown merchant to include: The High Lite Mens Wear, The Merchant Fruit Company, The Lone Star Beer Distributorship for Laredo, Zapata, and Rio Grande City, , and 3/4 Cattle Company. He was especially known as "The Lone Star Beer Distributor". He provided sponsorships for many organizations as well as a location for people to celebrate at the Lone Star Beer Garden on Hwy 59.
He enjoyed animals and to his credit he bred, raised and trained racehorses with his longtime family friends.
He held several board positions with Community organizations such as; Chamber of Commerce, the American Quarter Horse Association, L.I.F.E. Downs, and Jr. Chamber of Commerce (Jaycee's).
He was an avid outdoorsman and athlete. He enjoyed hunting and fishing while traveling the country. In 1966 Alex became a member of the Boone and Crockett Book of Records when he harvested an enormous whitetail buck in Webb County. He was captain of his high school football team and also played baseball in his younger years and later sponsored many baseball teams, and most recently enjoyed watching and attending the Lemurs games.
He believed that education was vital and spared no expense in ensuring his children and grandchildren received all the education they needed. His greatest joy was watching his children, and grandchildren graduate with degrees.
